Nvidia faces legal action for using authors' work in AI training

Nvidia, a leading chipmaker, is embroiled in a legal battle as authors Brian Keene, Abdi Nazemian, and Stewart O'Nan sue the company for allegedly using their copyrighted books without permission to train its NeMo AI platform.

Authors' allegations

The authors claim that Nvidia incorporated their literary works into a dataset of approximately 196,640 books used to train NeMo in generating human-like language. The dataset was removed in October after copyright infringement concerns surfaced, prompting the authors to seek unspecified damages.

Similar case with OpenAI

This isn't the first instance of authors suing over the use of their work in AI training. Previously, comedienne-author Sarah Silverman and several other authors sued OpenAI for employing their content without consent to train ChatGPT, sparking a legal battle over copyright infringement.
